Welcome to ANSTO’s National Science Week Hackathon, a thrilling event that empowers Australian secondary school students to explore the realms of science, innovation, and entrepreneurship. As part of National Science Week 2023, this hackathon will revolve around the inspiring theme of “Innovation: Powering Future Industries,” with a special focus on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors.

Now in its fourth year, ANSTO’s National Science Week Hackathon aims to provide students with invaluable experiences in STEM fields, fostering creative confidence, team-working skills, and the ability to collaborate online. Participants will also have the unique opportunity to interact with scientists, professionals, and entrepreneurs, gaining insights from diverse perspectives.

The hackathon invites secondary school teams to tackle real-world challenges and develop innovative solutions. These bright minds will then present their ideas through engaging videos, which will be evaluated by a panel of esteemed scientists.

Teachers can leverage this event to inspire their students in STEM and foster a passion for science, innovation, and technology. Whether it’s incorporating the hackathon as a supporting activity for National Science Week, using it to meet curriculum connections in Science and Technology, or engaging Science, STEM, or Environmental Clubs in a rewarding challenge, the possibilities are endless.

Participants will be competing in two divisions: Junior and Senior. The winning teams will not only receive recognition for their exceptional work but also have the chance to claim impressive prizes. The FIRST PRIZE consists of $1000 to be divided among team members and an ANSTO Science Medal for each student. Additionally, the RUNNER-UP will receive $500 to be shared among team members and an ANSTO Science Medal for each student.
