Get ready to unleash your creativity and explore the wonders of science with the return of Think Science!, the free, nationwide competition for young explorers in Years 3 to 10. Hosted by ANSTO, Think Science! is designed to ignite a passion for science among primary and secondary school students across Australia by encouraging them to engage in a hands-on investigation within the realms of the Australian Curriculum’s Science Inquiry skills.

Students are invited to team up in small groups of 2 – 4 to delve into a scientific investigation of their choice. This inquiry could span any topic that piques their curiosity, making the competition a perfect blend of learning and creativity. Whether it’s a phenomenon taught in class or a question that’s always intrigued them, Think Science! offers the flexibility to explore it all.

The core of the competition lies in communication, a crucial scientific skill. Each team will document their investigative journey and findings in a concise videoβ€”3 to 4 minutes for primary students, and 4 to 5 minutes for secondary students. This video submission is not just a presentation but a showcase of their ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and engagingly.

Why should you dive into Think Science!? It’s more than just a competition. It’s a chance to practice Science Inquiry skills essential to the Australian Curriculum in a fun and engaging way. With over $10,000 in prizes for the winning teams and their schools, plus additional rewards for schools in regional and remote areas, every participant has a chance to shine and contribute to their school’s success.

Open to all Australian students from Years 3 to 10, regardless of their school’s location or resources, Think Science! ensures an inclusive and supportive environment. Teachers play a pivotal role by registering their classes or student teams, but individual students can also participate by getting their teacher to register them as part of a team. Homeschoolers aren’t left out either, with specific provisions allowing them to compete and win prizes.
